We found a handful of real people who wanted to give someone in their life the gift of good news for Christmas and helped them make those memories much more special with a few personalized Coca-Cola bottles that announced their own surprises. With stories that ranged from a soldier coming home from war unannounced to surprise his Dad, to a man surprising his mother with the news that after long wait she’s finally going to be a grandmother, to a man proposing to his girlfriend, and an adopted son meeting his biological father for the first time, all of these emotional and real surprises where delivered using the personalized bottles as the surprise catalyst, giving these people their “Best Coca-Cola Ever”
Execution
First we searched for the right stories, and out of hundreds of people who wanted to surprise their loved ones, we chose the best ones. Then, we created special Coke bottles that used the “Share a Coke with” message on the label to communicate each particular surprise.
We partnered with the people giving the surprises using a guise of fake documentaries on subjects like “interracial couples” and “parents with children at war” to make their “marks” let their guard down and give the cameras a reason for being there.
We filmed all the surprises with no script, waiting for those emotional moments to happen, and then edited a Christmas brand film telling these wonderful stories and launched it on Coca-Cola’s social media channels to be shared and inspire others to give the gift of good news during the holiday season.
