Description

We created a Blood Legacy, because the most effective way to keep the support of these regular donors, is through their own families.

We designed a special medallion encasing the last drop of blood from their last donation. Each of the donors handed down the medallion as an inheritance to a member of their family, along with the responsibility of also becoming a regular donor.

Execution

Implementation:

Through the data base, we could tell who were the donors about to reach their age limit for donating. This is why we create a medallion with their name engraved on it and encasing their last drop of blood, which is given to the hospital where he or she donated last. The medallion is handed as an inheritance to a member of their family to continue with this importante work.

Timeline: The idea started with an event where Costa Rica's health authorities unveiled the idea nationally. The first medallions were handed and inherited in that same event. Informative materiales were launched through social networks and hospitals throughout the country.

Placement: Through social networks, we released a video explaining the idea and inviting citizens to commence their own legacy.

Scale: The initiative is being implemented throughout the entire national territory, and it is inspiring neighboring countries.

Outcome

100% of the young people who have received a medallion continue donating regularly in honor of their family. Helping to create a new tradition and maintain invaluable blood reserves in Costa Rica.
