BurEUcratia - Dear Politicians! Experience the European Bureaucratic Labyrinth!
Bureaucracy in the European Union is a major economical burden that average people have to suffer but only politicians can change. However, politicians have no idea what bureaucratic regulations mean for citizens’ everyday life.
Execution
We created a fictional, labyrinth-like country: BurEUcratia. 6 personal stories explained our everyday life here. “BurEUcratia” was open to the public for three days to raise awareness of six EU rules identified by the Business Taskforce as the most problematic areas. We built BurEUcratia in four Central European cities: Budapest, Vienna, Prague and Krakow.
Outcome
The campaign was a big success in PR: international media covered the story, from major news portals to professional blogs about politics. The project caught the attention of British and Hungarian media and more importantly the special attention of Bela Glattfelder member of the European Parliament and its Agriculture and Rural development committee, who dispose over millions of euros.
“Therefore the United Kingdom calls on the European Commission and all EU member states to continue taking concrete steps by adopting a pro-growth approach to EU regulation.” Jonathan Knott said.
Béla Glattfelder said: “With our economy largely dependent on SMEs and bilateral trade with other EU member states, Hungary supports the endeavours of the UK and the European Commission in cutting EU red tape.”? ?
