The emotional power of this commercial is largely due to the performances of the cast.
The calm, business-like tone of the operator is in stark contrast to the desperation and hopelessness expressed by the caller. The pained shriek of the child is so visceral; it convinces the listener that they should do anything in their power to avoid hearing that sound again.
