Description
An airport that up until then did not receive commercial flights was reopened and became a symbol of the largest Cancer Hospital in Latin America. Now, more patients will have access to the best treatment. Doctors will have access to the best training and technology. And everyone knows and supports the Barretos Cancer Hospital.
Execution
We began by creating a video introducing the hospital, the abandoned airport and inviting people to access our website. In the website, people could book a seat in a virtual plane connected to Facebook – like a petition supporting the flight. When booking the seat, the passenger authorized the video to be posted on their timeline, sharing the message with their friends and restarting the process.
Meanwhile, TV and radio stations, newspapers, magazines and websites donated space for us to provoke the airlines and invite more people to participate.
Outcome
This was a campaign for people to demand the flight. And it was done. Over 252,000 people booked a seat in the Facebook petition. There were 291 million social media views with celebrities as well as common people supporting the cause. 84,000 emails were sent to the airlines directly from our website.
In just 2 months, the Federal Government included the airport in the Aviation Regional Plan, investing US$ 9.1 million in renovations. And, on March, 22nd, 2014, Passaredo Airlines landed its first commercial flight in Barretos. The Flight Against Cancer had been created.
