An entire city was created in cinema 4D. From there a virtual set was created in Maya, so that we could previsualise all the shots and camera moves. We used a 400 gallon tank to immerse the city within, so there was enough space physically to put the camera in and move around. The director had milliseconds to figure out the move and get the paint to “perform” until it disappears. The creative part all happened upfront in the planning stages, and on the day of the shoot it was about getting the paint to “perform”. In post each shot was its own art project. We carefully considered lighting and colour. We wanted to push storytelling beyond what we could even achieve with all the great on set technology. The challenge was combining all these different elements into something unique, yet consistent.
