The film medium was used to transport the audience back to the nerve-racking first day of school and into the shoes of a recently transgender teen returning to school for the first time as their true self. The hand-held feel of the camera reinforced the uneasiness and imperfections of any first day of school, while floating along step-by-step with our protagonist reflecting on the environmental, social and person changes of their life. While the internal monologue was used to tell our heroes story, the film captured the sincere emotionality of both our hero’s literal and metaphorical journey to arrive to class with a new name and identity.
