Description

In order to keep their customers safe, General Motors asked us to develop a campaign to prevent the increasing number of accidents due to texting and driving.

Our challenge was to truly solve the problem rather than only raising awareness of it.

Based on the fact that more than 70% of text conversations start from incoming texts, we decided to develop an app that would disable message notifications while the person is driving and inform the people texting them that they where driving.

This way, we protected the drivers seamlessly and with the help of their friends.

Execution

Our app was developed for android smartphones to automatically sync with the driver’s car.

Each phone was synced to a specific car and the app would start working as soon as the car started getting speed.

The app would immediately mute all notifications for incoming texts in order to keep the drivers with their eyes on the road.

In order to reach the drivers’ texters, the app would generate an automatic SMS to whoever would text person on the wheel.

Outcome

In only 3 months we have stopped 87,992 text messages to drivers and texting and driving tickets have decreased 17% -Source: National Transit Commission
