Description

In March 2013, the China Advertising Conference kicked off in Hangzhou. For this occasion, we played with a thousand-year-old Chinese game.

7-pieces Tangram is a Chinese traditional intellectual puzzle, composed of seven flat blocks in the shapes of triangles and quadrilaterals. It requires not only logic skills, but also creativity to assemble the pieces and create shapes of humans, animals, buildings, everyday objects, etc. There are now endless possibilities of combinations. It can even form Chinese characters, Latin letters and Arabic numerals. Tangram has become an inherent part of Chinese culture, and a wonderful childhood memories for many Chinese people.

Execution

For the film, we used this ancient form of puzzle, re-interpreting it through 3D animation. From a flying bird to a growing tree, an explosion to the infinity symbol, the film is entirely composed with configurations from Tangram’s blocks.
