Description
A key objective was to create something so standout, so appealing, that people would want to hang it proudly year round. We needed to find a way to capture and dramatize the power in color, but do it in a very simple, memorable, unique way.
Execution
The concept was born from the idea that color can transport you to another time or place and the nature of paint itself – when applied generously to a wall, it drips. From those drips came the idea: reveal iconic cityscapes in the negative space, inspired by Valspar color names.
We physically created a cityscape in paint drips, studying the slight curves and nuances that can’t be simulated digitally. We then screen-printed the posters using real Valspar paint with Swiss binding for clean tears and hung it with a simple paint can handle.
Outcome
The limited edition calendar immediately generated huge buzz. Customers have asked to buy them and print shops and art studios continue to inquire about the possibility of selling them in their stores.
