Description
Inspiring color choice has always been haphazard and subjective. We wanted to change that by leveraging data people created themselves as a way of revealing colors they were naturally drawn to.
We knew Pinterest, as a database of your likes and desires, had all the data we would need. So we built a tool to turn people’s pins and boards into Valspar paint chips.
Execution
The Valspar Pinterest Analyzer is the first tool that turns pins and boards into paint chips. Using Pinterest’s API, we were capable of delivering custom color results for Pinterest’s over 1 billion boards.
After extracting the colors from people’s pins and boards, they could either download their paint chips to their phones, or get them delivered to their homes for free.
Cinematic Pins, programmatic display, and a paid SEM campaign built around color searches drove people to the Pinterest Analyzer online.
To make sure people could find color inspiration in-store, we created custom versions of the Pinterest Analyzer for Lowe’s and Ace. Today, sales associates are using iPads to help people log in to Pinterest and download their perfect chip at shelf.
Outcome
We didn’t just change the way people choose color. With 39MM+ impressions, 1.9MM+ website visits, 16,000+ boards analyzed and 13,000+ paint chips downloaded, we fixed the way they shop for paint.
