OVERVIEW

Description

In October 2004, Clark County was the closest fought county in the narrowest swing state in the USA. The Guardian set out to give non-US citizens an opportunity to engage in the US election, by writing to the undecided voters there, while simultaneously increasing awareness of the Guardian around the world. All 40,000 addresses were downloaded in two days, and this generated worldwide media coverage. It was featured on CNN, ABC, CBS and NBC in the US alone, as well as being covered on Sky, BBC, and every major newspaper in the UK and USA. 500,000 extra visits to the Guardian website were recorded during the same period.
