Description
The Connect to Care mobile app turns the chore of laundry into a true act of love.
The app connects with Whirlpool smart appliances to trigger a charitable donation every time a load of laundry is done. Whirlpool owners choose how much they want to donate per wash, enter it in the app, and every time they run their washer that amount is automatically donated to Habitat for Humanity – a charity that helps provide homes for families in need.
Connect to Care helps remind users of the larger impact and value of the chores we take for granted every day.
Execution
Connect to Care launched at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas where, amidst a sea of tech gadgets and flashy innovations, this app stood out as one of the only technologies with real humanity at its core.
The Connect to Care functionality was seamlessly integrated into the existing Whirlpool app, making it easy for new and old owners to access and activate.
A simple interface helps users connect the app to their appliance and their bank accounts so no further work is required for donating. The app lets users track their personal donation stats, see the full program donation stats and share their contributions on social media.
Program messaging has become a key part of new owner materials, and combined with awareness from news outlets and in-store messaging, it’s become a decision-driving factor for potential buyers.
Outcome
Connect to Care was the centerpiece of the Whirlpool presence at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show, which earned over 3,300 media placements and a stunning 1.5 billion impressions. As Whirlpool connected appliances ramp up production to meet this level of interest and demand, the impact of the Connect to Care program will only grow larger and more life-changing for families across the nation.
