OVERVIEW

Idea

Our drive behind this film is to communicate the genuine devotion of Beko to make environmentally conscious products while displaying a conscious use of AI technology. We aimed to contribute to the discussion of sustainability from another angle. “Connections” film illustrates that we humans are not part of nature, but that we are nature. Until now, we’ve perceived nature as a savage force to tame, resulting in catastrophic climate imbalances. If we want to change our behavior, we first need to change our perceptions. This is where the fluid, unique and interconnected visual effects qualities of A.I. Motion pictures come in. These generative visuals exist beyond the human perception of being somehow separate from nature. With this technology, we could visualize the one-ness depicted in the script and make a film clearly showing the patterns in our bodies becoming the patterns in the body of nature.

Execution

IMPLEMENTATION: Online short film.

PLACEMENT: Website, Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter.

SCALE: Over 101 countries including Africa, Asia, CIS, Europe, Japan and MENA, South & Central America.

BRAND RELEVANCE: GLOBAL.

TOUCH POINTS: DIGITAL.

MATERIALS, STYLE ELEMENTS, DESIGN CHOICES: A.I. Motion Pictures.

METHODS AND PROCESS: Half of the movie is live-action, and the other half is generated by A.I. The production had no pre-scripted answer, as this technique of filmmaking had never experimented before. The storyboard had to change every day due to experiment outcomes. For the A.I. part, we mostly used a technology called GANs (Generative Adversarial Networks). Per sequence, where a GAN is used, we needed to create a dataset of 20,000+ images of different but similar objects or content. For this project, we created 26 different datasets, including eyes, flowers, trees, leaves, shells, etc., resulting in over half a million different but similar pictures.

For the production of this one-minute film, over a million images needed to be processed.

We used existing technology that is available to cutting-edge machine learning (AI) researchers. However, to be able to make seamless transitions between different AI models, we needed to build custom engineering pipelines.

TIMELINE: The production of A.I.and live action took 3 months. The film will run indefinitely.
