OVERVIEW

Background

The brief for this project was to build a sonic landscape to help illustrate that while people may make their sleep less of a priority, a better sleep actually means a better you.

The objective for the sound was to use familiar audio cues, to help establish the themes - but then to twist and heighten them to make the whole experience feel more absract.

Execution

The sound design was primarily created to help form a surreal and dreamlike atmosphere. Sound effects were treated and manipulated to create a disorientating sound bed, using a carefully selected pallet of sounds that are closely associated with bedtime themes.

Dialogue and vocal effects were warped to place them in an unfamiliar context, and to provide an additional sonic layer to help immerse the viewer in the world.

The first clock tick established the metronome for the film, and everything else was matched to this tempo to build cohesive mix between music & sound design.

Everything builds until the moment the Mattress Firm associate arrives, at which point the abstract world is switched off and a sense off normality returns.
