Background
Garbage created by Halloween revelers was becoming a problem. Our goal was to improve Roppongi's image as a neighborhood overflowing with garbage, while bringing attention to the problem. So we designed a garbage bag that dresses rubbish up as a jack-o'-lantern. Bagging your garbage became a way to decorate the neighborhood.
Execution
The event ran from about two weeks before Halloween to the day after. Volunteers gathered in a Roppongi park at 7am, before the morning commute. Armed with the pumpkin garbage bags, they began picking up garbage. Despite the early-morning start time, we had 550 volunteers over a period of two weeks.
