Description
Earphone Bully puts you in the shoes of a silent victim. With the current generation welded to their earphones, it uses 3D sound to put a bully in your head.
This creates a powerful roleplay tool to prepare kids for schoolyard bullies and gives them ways to speak up about it.It's also about empathy and understanding for bystanders and parents, and for bullies themselves. You don’t really know what it’s like until you step into their shoes.Earphone bully can be customised by any anti-bully organisations to add local support details and can be personalised when passing onto friends.
Execution
The solution is an audio experience that puts you in the shoes of a silent victim.
Bullies get away with it when no-one talks, so earphonebully.org gives easy ways to speak up.
It's designed to be passed on through social networks and offers personalisation when passing onto friends (the earphone bully could even know their name). It also prompts people who have been bullied to take the first step and tell someone they trust with a simple email.
Outcome
Already in Australia the major anti-bullying organisations are using Earphone Bully, including the nation's largest government-funded anti-bullying organisation, which is opening the door to all Australian schools as a classroom resource. Our national youth digital radio station NovaNation is also supporting the Earphone Bully initiative. Global interest is growing, which is great, but we are not concerned about speed of uptake – just about making it available to all.
