Our idea was a non-starter ! We planned to put a huge countdown timer, 60 minutes before the Earth Hour. That was okay. The stumbling block was the countdown timer. Like in a calculator, each digit was formed using the room lights in the hotel. At this point, may we strongly suggest you look at the video submitted.

We used the lights in the hotel rooms as a medium. Tired guests played ambassadors for the cause. You are in a foreign city, tired, come back to the hotel to relax and the hotel asks you to sacrifice 60 minutes of your time. Convincing the guests to play with the lights was a huge ask. Of course, we had to sweeten the deal. We offered happy hours, candle light dinners and foot massages for guests who obliged. And yes, the entire hotel went dark during the Earth Hour. An impossible dream, that was technically a nightmare.

Outcome

When thousands of people, paying their toll saw the unique countdown timer, they stopped the cars to click photographs. They spoke to their friends and updated their facebook status. We made a busy city stop, take notice and talk about the Earth Hour.
