Super Bowl spots that feature celebrities are almost always entirely focused on those celebrities, with the story itself usually on the simpler side. The hard part of directing Jason Bateman in a 60 second spot for the Super Bowl wasn’t getting Bateman to be funny – the hard part was crafting a fast-paced story that featured multiple scenes starring nearly 30 other principal actors, and still making sure that Bateman remained the comedic anchor that held it all together. This spot for Hyundai Shopper Assurance was shot over four days and multiple locations, and despite Bateman only being there for one of those days, the end result was a spot that many regarded as among the best on the Super Bowl.
