We are set inside a futuristic lab, a doctor tests his creation: an artificial-intelligence robot named Evelyn. Despite the sophisticated, formal setting, it’s an intimate scene—and one that has potential implications for humanity, since the observed is about to become the observer.

The doctor’s phone—lying next to Evelyn—buzzes with a message that it’s time to pay his phone bill. This catches Evelyn’s attention, and here she entirely breaks routine by asking a seemingly simple question: Why would the doctor pay twice as much for four lines of unlimited? Evelyn has analyzed the data; she's done the math. It makes no sense that anyone would choose Verizon over Sprint. The rest of the robots in the lab agree and mock the doctor accordingly.
