Description
By creating a powerful experience to inspire and enrich the communities served by Umpqua Bank, we knew we could represent their core belief in everyone’s potential for growth. Introducing Exhibit:Growth, a traveling interactive art exhibit. Using large-scale, motion-activated digital technology, the work invites visitors to embark on a journey of personal discovery while demonstrating the power and beauty of a collective experience. Visitors discover a unique world created by their individual movements and energy – and how each builds on those who have gone before to form a connective landscape.
Execution
Visitors were invited inside an 80-foot geodesic dome to experience a variety of negative emotions culminating in a transformative journey, unique to every visitor. Each of these deeply evocative, emotional environments reacts distinctly to visitor’s body motions. This interaction naturally unveils a lone seedling, glowing in the void. As visitors gesture and move, the seed grows, extending branches and blossoming leaves until its a vibrant, flourishing tree. Every tree is unique, eventually revealing it's part of a bountiful forest. All the visitors received a unique digital image of their tree artfully composited with thier silhouette to share.
Surrounding the dome was a sculpture garden comprised of art pieces, which each had a story of growth.
This immersive installation was free and open to all ages. It launched in Portland for a 10 day run in November 2014. It was then taken to Seattle in September 2015.
