OVERVIEW

Description

In addition to information about the museum exhibition, visitors to the site are introduced, by means of an interactive experience, to the world in which the two artists lived. Portrayals of typical scenes from the turbulent friendship are based on selections from Van Gogh and Gauguin's letters: their quarrels and their personal ideals and concerns. A representative selection of paintings from the exhibition also provides an insight into the way the two artists worked and the oeuvre they produced. The story is told in a linear sequence based around four themes: Van Gogh in Arles, Gauguin's arrival, their collaboration and Gauguin's departure following the dramatic quarrel in which Van Gogh cut off part of his ear. Visitors are able to experience their own version of the story in visuals, animations and sound. A rising and setting sun serves navigational metaphor. Objectives Exhibition promotion: In depth look into the work, the relationship and the exhibition concept. Learning aspect: historical details and information about the painters work styles. Working with emotion on a web environment. Target group: People who cannot attend the exhibition, potential visitors, as well as visitors who already visited the exhibition.
