With the NBA Draft occurring the same week as Father’s Day, we created a seemingly earnest and heartfelt film for Foot Locker in which some of the biggest prospects reflect on the role their own fathers played in helping them reach their ultimate dream of hearing their name called from the stage and becoming an NBA player. It begins with a tone and format familiar to anyone who’s watched the kind of highly emotional, overproduced athlete profiles during the Olympics and other high-profile sports events. However, one player, Lonzo Ball, recalls a series of memories that are starkly and humorously at odds with those of his fellow draftees, completely throwing a wrench into the ostensibly intended positive vibe of the spot.
