Background

The Aston Martin DBS770 Ultimate is exactly that - the ultimate expression of a front-engined sports car, with the ferocity of 770 metric horsepower powering its exquisite form from 0-60mph in just 3.2 seconds. The scarcity of these cars - the limited edition ran to just 500 - meant that the challenge was less about driving leads and more about capturing the cutting-edge performance of this vehicle in a way that built interest in the Aston Martin brand.

Execution

We were presented with a challenge. Making a cinematic fluid simulation based reveal of the DBS that felt organic and ferocious. Time was of the essence; our team chose the industry disruptive Blender for its super fast GPU based Cycles render engine. We realised early on that a full computationally heavy sim would not allow us to produce the ad in time. Our intrepid team of 3d wizards decided to use Blender's cutting-edge geometry nodes and math based procedural materials to sell the look of ferrous like fluids, whilst giving us full control over the art directable visuals and feel.
