Background
For the launch of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S23 series, we were asked to showcase the Galaxy S23 Ultra as a pro-grade camera made for everyone, highlighting it’s capabilities of filming in low-light conditions.
The project aimed to create content that would showcase the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s camera capabilities at night by collaborating with a renowned film director Na Hong-jin, who is known for his unique mise-en-scène utilizing dark images and suspense elements, to create a short film shot entirely with our product in a dark environment.
Execution
Our film embraced darkness, both thematically and visually. To capture this essence, the chosen subject matter delved into somber territory, supported by a director and cinematographer adept at illuminating shadows.
The camera dances intimately with the protagonist, tracking he ascent up the stairs, weaving through doorways. It peers into his eyes, reflecting the film's unspoken truths. This unrelenting intimacy, born from a stark landscape of minimal dialogue, thrusts the viewer into his world, amplifying every breath, every flinch.
Smartphone cameras in low-light are known adversaries, but through meticulous testing, we achieved clear, evocative visuals that resonate with the story's undercurrents.
Ultimately, our cinematography is not merely aesthetics; it's a narrative language whispering truths and amplifying emotions. It's an indispensable thread woven into the very fabric of this film.
