The character at the heart of this story is a Greek migrant named “Frank”. At the time this story begins there was a great deal of migration from Europe to Australia, and many of the people who moved to our shores have played a large role in building our communities and developing our national identity. So we undertook a national search to find an actor with an affable charm and a gentle charisma, who could embody the spirit of a much-loved character of Australia’s cultural history.

We undertook a national search to find an actor with an affable charm and a gentle charisma.

Both Frank and his wife had to look right for the early 60s – before good dentistry, and then age believably over the next few decades.

There was also the major challenge of matching the the personalities of the older and younger versions of these characters.

In a lot of historical stories this isn’t believable, compromising the authenticity of the story.

In Frank, we found people who not only looked the part, but shared the same characterful spirit.
