Description
For the Spring / Summer 2016 issue of GARAGE magazine, we created special edition covers featuring supermodels Candice Swanepoel and Cuba Tornado Scott as Marvel-inspired characters. When viewed through the newly launched GARAGE mobile app, the fierce front covers transform into 3D superheroes, bursting from the magazine into a 360 augmented reality experience controlled by the reader’s mobile device.
Each cover is an emergence of female power in a stylized environment that allows the creator and audience to expand gender equality to unapologetic levels. We took full advantage of the rich and artistic Marvel history, to create spellbinding visual narratives that through the use of augmented reality literally reached outside of the magazine’s constraints.
Execution
To accommodate for these explosive new covers, we rebuilt the GARAGE mobile app from the ground up. The result is an intuitive and powerful AR platform to bring the pages of the magazine to life and act as a home to all things GARAGE, including past and current cover content. From the app, users can share the AR animation directly to their preferred social platforms like Facebook and Instagram, receive up-to-the-minute news via the updated News feed, and access exclusive content between issues, available only through the GARAGE mobile app
Built in Unity for iOS and Android devices, the app serves as a direct extension of the GARAGE print publication. With features like explosive AR 3D animations, in-page AR video, and interactive AR games and models, GARAGE is empowered to create engaging interactive content, immersing the user into the world of high fashion and fine art like never before.
