Description
In this film, interconnected machines work together to save Datalandia from the usual blockbuster threats, like aliens and sexy vampires. But while the story plots we created were comedic, the technology showcased in each film was true to life, showing how GE-built machines communicate with each other, and are helping to create a world where big data is used to make our lives better every day.
Execution
Focusing on how data can "save the day," we decided to create a series of summer blockbuster-style movies, all set in a place we called Datalandia, the small town saved by Big Data. In each film, interconnected machines work together to save Datalandia from the usual blockbuster threats, like aliens and sexy vampires. But while the story plots we created were comedic, the technology showcased in each film was true to life, showing how GE-built machines communicate with each other, and are helping to create a world where big data is used to make our lives better every day.
Outcome
The Datalandia films were released on YouTube and screened in theaters around the country DatalandifyYourself.com went live in the summer of 2013. The videos on YouTube garnered nearly 2 million views, and submissions to DalandifyYourself.com maxed out within minutes of the site launching. Additionally GE received several high-profile press articles commending them for their marketing savvy for launching a campaign that entertained the consumer by "making geeky cool."
