Background
The average European customer thinks about their energy supplier for just 8 minutes a year. And they rarely think good thoughts—pollution, high prices and poor service are synonymous with almost every brand in the marketplace.
In 2016, E.ON made a commitment to be different. It separated off its fossil fuel power stations, rolled out a host of innovative products and transformational customer service initiatives, and subscribed to a new vision focused less on selling people energy, and more on helping them use it better.
In a notoriously low-interest sector, our brief was to raise awareness around the new E.ON and engage people with the smart, sustainable solutions it offered.
Description
This film is designed to showcase E.ON's revolutionary new solar storage technology. It was produced in partnership with the Gorillaz and set to their track 'We Got The Power.'
Set in the desert at night, the film features over 1,000 dancing toys, hundreds of light installations, giant tanks of illuminating squid, a squadron of flashing UFOs and a giant golden lucky cat – all of these were powered entirely by solar and battery storage technology; a technology E.ON has now made available to UK consumers through its new E.ON Solar and Storage offering.
Execution
Beyond the film itself, we created a whole ecosystem of additional content with huge share-ability, extending the engagement and explaining more about E.ON’s technology.
This content didn’t just live digitally. We also created the ‘E.ON Kong Solar Studio’, a solar powered recording studio, based on the band’s original Kong Studios and kicked off a tour of European festivals at Gorillaz Demon Dayz Festival in Margate.
Using the power generated by E.ON solar PV panels, Kong Studios came to life at night when it hosted recordings by upcoming local talent, who’s tracks appeared on a dedicated soundcloud page as well as the E.ON website, broadening our reach still further
