OVERVIEW

Description

A FedEx deliveryman takes a package from a small business owner, and immediately as he heads for the exit, the modest office space magically transforms into a bigger, more successful one.

The first area to evolve is the owner’s office: his old desk changes into a new one, as does his computer, the ceiling rises up and the view out the window ascends, signifying that their office has upgraded to a higher floor.

The FedEx deliveryman proceeds as the ever-expanding office continues to change, with a kitchenette morphing into a modern cafeteria and new employees popping up out of the ground, ready for work.

At this point, our FedEx deliveryman notices he is causing all the changes and to confirm this, he stops, causing everything else to as well. Then, just to be sure, he goes back and forth, which directly controls the new employees, and they pop in and out of the ground. One of those employees, frustrated by the manipulation, tells him to cut it out.

The voiceover pays it all off with copy: FedEx has solutions to enable global commerce that can help your company grow steadily and quickly.

Execution

Using a mix of practical and visual effects, the CG and compositing teams transformed the FedEx office from the first to the last shot. Some of the office elements were practical but were then augmented/extended in post. Some of the office was created entirely in CG.

CG doors, 2D shadows and an office environment recreated in CG were completed using actors who were shot on a green screen background and carefully placed to bring the spot to life.

As the FedEx worker walks the halls, the low-ceiling cluttered space expands. The backgrounds seen through the windows were created using CG matte paintings. CG conference rooms full of workers pop up out of the floor, which was built on a platform, and 2D vending machines furl up to reveal coffee shops. Using a photo-real image in the first frame created items that moved and expanded. It then begins to look painted onto a moving rig once the item starts moving.
