Description
In Colombia talking about gay couples rights is a controversy as old as the country itself, a controversy full of violence, intolerance, lack of respect and equality and even worst this controversy has not ended, because in a country like Colombia being gay is a sin, an immoral act and almost a felony.
Our strategy was to join two different problems with one solution hundreds of cats and dogs that were looking for a family and hundreds of gay couples that were looking for a "son".
This entry is appropriate for PR because the Foundation didn't have a budget for this, that's why we had to achieve that LGBTI community leaders felt in love with the idea so they could transform it into a movement sufficient enough to get the attention of different media and also the country's senators.
Execution
As we asked LGBTI couples to adopt abandoned cats and dogs, they reacted in a positive and immediate way. They not only joined the campaign, they took it one step further generating a big impact on media and this gave us free press.
The first thing we did was to ask LGBTI community leaders to promote our initiative, not as an advertising campaign but as a movement. The result of this was a union in the community and this turned into hundreds of adoptions.
Outcome
120 adoptions and most importantly, those cats and dogs that are ill and can't be adopted were moved to safer shelter where they can live happy and avoid the risk of being sacrificed.
More than 120 million pesos generated in PR
50 Million impressions
Senator Angelica Lozano, one of the gay political leaders who support equal rights for LGBTI couples helped us to promote the campaign.
Also Senators Armando Bennedeti and Claudia Lopez joined the campaign
Different opinion leaders like: Kim Zualuaga, La Lupe, Carlos Vargas, Ronal Mayorga and Liss Pereira also joined the campaign
