Description

This VR educates children on the dangers in their water by making the invisible visible. Players travel a river and use a clean water filter straw to defeat monsters that represent hidden dangers like bacteria, chemicals, trash and corroded metal. Each level teaches kids how these dangers can make people sick, as well as how a WATERisLIFE filter straw can help clean water.

Execution

The Hidden Dangers VR game debuted at schools in villages on the Khao Laem River – villages where people are getting sick from dangers in their water they can’t see with the naked eye. In the game, players travel a virtual river modeled on their own and use a clean water filter straw to defeat monsters that represent hidden dangers like bacteria, chemicals, trash and corroded metal. Each level teaches kids how these dangers can make people sick, as well as how a WATERisLIFE filter straw can help clean water.

The game also traveled to schools in America to educate and raise awareness about clean water. It was backed by a social campaign that included a launch film and 360º video that pushed to HiddenDangersProject.com, an educational hub where classrooms could download the game for free.

Outcome

The Hidden Dangers VR experience not only sheds light on the global water crisis, it will save hundreds – if not thousands – of fragile lives throughout rural Southeast Asia. In addition to the direct impact, the project is also being released through National Geographic and Time Magazine’s ‘Time For Kids’ to help bring it to schools around the world, publish it in their magazine and create webcasts about it. This will make a lasting impression on generations of students, helping them understand just how important clean water is for our future.
