OVERVIEW

Background

With features that track all the ways you move and help you stay connected while you’re out and about, Apple Watch has become the ultimate device for a healthy life. We wanted to celebrate the ways in which existing Apple Watch owners have been using the device, as well as to inspire current non-wearers to join the movement.

Idea

As the lyrics from the classic participatory sing-along “The Hokey Pokey” punctuate their actions, people around the world demonstrate the ways in which Apple Watch has been inspiring them to be more active, healthy, and connected.

Strategy

For the introduction of the fundamentally redesigned and re-engineered Apple Watch Series 4, we wanted to celebrate the ways in which, since its introduction, Apple Watch has been inspiring people all around the world to live healthier, more active lives.

Execution

We filmed people of all ages, doing all kinds of activity, to demonstrate the wide-ranging impact Apple Watch has had. To convey a sense of inclusiveness and fun, we decided to use “The Hokey Pokey,” a universally understood song with movement at its core. A version from the 1950’s by Ray Anthony and His Orchestra was enhanced by The Avalanches, an Australian electronic music group known for their work with samples. They gave the track a modern feel while maintaining its timeless charm.

The footage was edited to match the verbal instructions in the song — “Put your left foot in,” “Turn yourself around,” etc. Variations in instrumentation and vocals provided an arc and crescendo not present in the original track, and supported the notion of many individuals making their own unique contribution to a gigantic global movement.

Outcome

The product itself plays a leading role in “Hokey Pokey.” Frequent close-ups of the watch helped us link the device to the actions being depicted, and to highlight key characteristics of Apple Watch Series 4, such as its all-new design, exclusive watch faces, cellular connectivity, and water resistance.Hokey Pokey was shared during the September Keynote on 9/12/18. The US version was presented at the event which is seen by millions.
