Description
“How to Tell if Your Money is Old or New” is a series of 15-second pseudo-scientific ‘experiments’ demonstrating either a benefit of New Money or a shortcoming of Old Money in a humorous way.
The films are inspired by the educational resource videos from the late ‘80s and early ‘90s. They set up a hypothesis, show the experiment, and present the conclusion that PayPal is the best option – all with the grain of a well-played VHS tape and nostalgic music.
Wind blows money right out a window, sharing ten dollars between friends leaves each with a fragment of useless paper and sending money overseas ends with a sinking bottle. Old Money problems.
Execution
The series was created to run within a new Instagram unit that included a CTA button positioned directly below the film. All films ended with supers that asked the viewer to “tap for money” that doesn’t follow old ways and the button enabled them to click to download the app. The films also ran on Facebook and YouTube.
Outcome
The “How To Tell if Your Money is Old or New” series successfully met participation goals by garnering an engagement rate that was 2.3x higher than all other past PayPal videos on the platform. The films received 4.99 million views and a total of 15,069 button/CTA clicks.
