OVERVIEW

Background

"I’d Rather Get Paid” centers around the reality that women still aren’t paid equally to men, despite the progress women have made in the workplace, government, and throughout society. The campaign aims to kick-start a conversation on this very real issue: on average, women in the U.S. are still paid 20% less than men – and this disparity is even greater for women of color, with black women and Latinas earning 38% and 46% less, respectively than white men. This difference in income adds up: the gender pay gap results in $513 billion in lost wages each year for women.

Execution

We worked with the creative team at the agency to write lyrics that got the key points across without jeopardizing the musicality of the piece. Once we settled on a story we worked with various composers to hone in on a final "sound." We went through at least 12 musical genres before landing on an alternative pop style, infused with a hint of soul. From there, we went through an exploratory casting process to find the perfect voice for our female lead and worked on set to help coordinate music and assist the actors with nailing the synchronization. Our end goal was to create a fun and danceable song that still had a fair bit of bite, and we are extremely proud of how the final product sounds and looks!
