We aimed to make Text Santa and Christmas Jumper Day even bigger and better than before by working with advertisers to create a stunt break that viewers would find engaging, entertaining and worthy of discussion.
Our idea was simple – to create a knitted version of a normal ad break.
We effectively asked some of the UK’s biggest brands and advertisers to ‘do your bit in a Christmas knit’ along with the rest of the nation to celebrate the jumper theme of the 2015 campaign.
Execution
We used stop frame animation and model making to create the knitted ad break; a very technical and labour-intensive process.
Our biggest challenge was the time we had available to make it happen -- just 6 weeks from brief to being on air.
In order to create over 2 minutes of animation we needed 6 separate animation work-stations, each with a different animator working 6 days a week for over 10 hours at a time. The models had to replicate the characters, movements and products from the original executions -- from their appearance through to their facial expressions, for both people and animals! All animation was done in camera.
