A story about Don Carlos and the truth of how the Margarita was created. This was part of a film festival style collection of executions created to bring to life the stories of the Cuervo Dons of Tequila.

In this mixed-media approach we built miniature sets as identical as we could to the real town of Tequila (with attention to scale, colour and textures). We then shot the miniatures using motion control and intricate practical lighting to create various passes of elements to be combined in post production.

This was followed by a blue screen shoot of performers, horse riders and trained birds - in which the lighting of the scenes and also planned effects - like the lighting caused by explosions - were carefully matched to the miniatures. With the graphical look we wanted to achieve, taking inspiration from initial illustrations, we combined the miniature sets with the live action footage in the digital composite - enhancing the action with atmospheric dust particles, fire and explosions, which all matched the in camera lighting done on set.
