OVERVIEW

Description

KA.DER, the Association for Supporting Female Candidates, is a bipartisan association aiming to increase the number of women in politics. Since its foundation in 1997, KADER has focused on the numbers of female MPs with the primary goal of increasing the percentage.

Throughout the years their main objectives were:

• To highlight the male/female inequality in the political arena

• To encourage women to go into politics

• To draw the attention of public opinion on this matter

• To put pressure on political leaders to increase the number of female candidates

Before the June 2015 elections in Turkey, although they had a low budget, they wanted to create a public awareness on gender inequality in the political arena and to put pressure on political leaders.

Execution

Due to budget limitations this campaign was limited in media usage. It was only implemented for press and billboards and social media.

The first stage of the campaign started in beginning of March 2015 and the second stage started end of March before the final candidate lists were given to the supreme election board and continued till the lists were presented.

This campaign created quite a buzz on the media.

Outcome

This campaign created quite a buzz. And it got extensive media coverage.

And the outcome of the overall campaign was:

5795 women applied to be candidates and 1384 of them were accepted by party leaders.

98 female MP's were elected.

The female MP percentage went up from 14.4% to 17.8%

This was a historical record. Finally European average was achieved
