In the spot, a father and son can be seen longingly watching their neighbors as they belly flop, synchronize swim, and share their new Kmart pool with a water skiing squirrel. The spot broke at a time when no other mass retailer offered a layaway service. And, it reinforced the concept that with Kmart, you can use layaway every day to get the pool—and everything else—to create the backyard of your dreams.
