Background
The pandemic altered not only people’s smiles but also the fun in eating potato chips.” Gen Z started to feel uneasy eating snacks with their potentially contaminated hands. From scratch, Lay’s created a finger-cleaning washing machine – Lay’s Finger Washing Machine, which allowed everyone to enjoy potato chips with their hands again, engaging them with happiness, enhancing Top of Mind, and brand preference among Gen Z.

The pandemic had had an impact on people's daily habits, including ways of eating snacks. Nowadays people mind the germs on their hands and feel uneasy eating snacks with them. As a leading brand determined to defend the joy of eating snacks with hands, Lay’s is declaring war on germs!
We have designed an exotic "finger washing" machine from scratch. Introducing the “Lay’s Finger Washing Machine.” Just insert your finger in the machine for detection, and atomized alcohol will dispense and sanitize your fingers automatically. Now everyone gets to enjoy Lay’s delicious potato chips again!
Strategy
Since Gen Z members can't live without their phones, McDonald’s came up with an idea to make receipt donation impossible to ignore!
We found the page that gets the most views is their mobile phone wallpaper, so we created numerous wallpapers for them to download. Every time they wake up their phone, it’s a reminder to donate digital receipts.
Execution

Regardless of race or nationality, everyone shares the same joy eating snacks with fingers. Lay’s Taiwan built a finger washing machine from scratch; it is equipped with intelligent components, Type-C charger and a refillable alcohol tank for long-term use. Just insert your finger in the machine for detection, and atomized alcohol will dispense and sanitize your finger automatically. And if you like, after you’ve enjoyed the chips as well. Total budget was US$20,000 but the campaign created a whopping US$3 million in media value globally.
