Description
Gun violence is commonplace across Chicago and in many other U.S. cities. For years, organizations have attempted to steer children (usually boys) away from this violence and shield them from street life. But it’s not always as simple as deciding to join or not—there are other factors beyond their control. Researchers are just beginning to understand the impact this violence has on young women. This short film captures the stories of three girls growing up in the South Shore neighborhood of Chicago, from the tremendous challenges they face to the dreams they’re determined to achieve. The key for them is the Lost Girlz softball team, an organization founded by former gang member LaVonte Stewart. Stewart explains gang culture and what inspired him to start Lost Boyz/Lost Girlz.
