Overview

Background

Italy is the country that gambles the most in Europe. 33 million Italians gamble.

140 billion euros have been bet in 2022.

In the coming years, 700.000 people are at risk of becoming problem gamblers.

This danger is compounded by the growth of online gaming, which increases the chances of developing an addiction as it allows players to play anywhere at any time.

What if Sisal, the leading brand in the Italian market, could transform his business to make gambling safer for players?

Idea

Online gaming is an aggravating factor, but there is an upside: when it's online, there's data.

So, we’ve created A.D.A. - The first AI for sustainable gambling

We have studied an Anti Dependence Algorithm, that uses big data and advanced behavioural science to identify problematic players and prevent them from developing a gambling issue.

A new generation of AI that predicts when a player takes a road that leads to a form of excess.

Strategy

A.D.A. analyses the online gaming experiences of 600.000 players monthly, across gender, age and taking into account any bias.

The data is collected in real time, and the algorithm is able to learn and change its predictions constantly.

This approach is intended to allow us to distinguish gambling that leads to addiction, and gambling that is healthy and sustainable for the players, in order to bring gaming back to its original dimension: fun.

Execution

On the Sisal Websites and Apps, A.D.A. scans click rates, connection times, bet quantities, loss reactions… hundreds of variables, studied in association with the Department of Psychology at UCSC Milan to understand every player’s risk profile.

Thanks to this ability to analyze data, it’s possible to foresee a vast range of risks, and help the players with with specific protection tools, from game limitation to specialized counselling and psychological support.
