Execution
The cars were filmed at 1000 frames per second on a purpose-built rig of 74 Nikon D700 cameras, three Phantom-flex 4K and 2K rigs, and on three cockpit-mounted GoPros.
The website lets people Meet the Machines in a slow-motion digital experience, allowing them to have total control over angle, focus and pace.
The website was brought to life at the 2015 New York International Auto Show, with a Microsoft Kinect-powered experience. The six-monitor display created an ultra-wide platform that allowed for up to six individual interactions, or when not in use, combined the monitors to display a full animated loop.
Outcome
As part of the global campaign around Nissan’s top-secret Le Mans challenger, the Meet The Machines interactive film revealed this highly anticipated car. This never-seen-before motorsports vehicle created an online frenzy that reached over 30 million people in the first week. With almost 2 million home page visits on the Nissan home page, the program was a key driver for website traffic.
The success of the site led us to transform it into a Microsoft Kinect-powered extension of the online experience – a gesture-powered installation that was unveiled at the 2015 New York International Auto Show.
