Every year, 1 in 5 Canadians experience a mental illness. Countless more endure that struggle in silence, never sharing their feelings or getting the help they need. The Canadian Mental Health Association wanted to find a compelling and memorable way to encourage younger Canadians (18-35) to talk about their mental well-being and, in doing so, help fight the stigma surrounding mental health.
Enter Mental Fatigues - a camouflage apparel line illustrating how we hide our mental health issues. The line consisted of three t-shirts, each with their own uniquely illustrated camouflage pattern, depicting one of three hidden mental health issues: Anxiety Disorder, Workplace Mental Health, or Substance Use Disorder. We launched in-store and online, with the entire stock selling out in 72 hours.
'Anxiety Disorder' subtly weaves background and foreground elements to depict some of the negative feelings that come with anxiety, like fear, anger, and avoidance.
