Our idea is a hard-hitting post box activation called “Mini Morgue”. True stories of victims of gun violence are printed on post box inserts that resemble the trays one finds in mortuaries, only on a tiny scale. This national campaign is targeted at the most dangerous suburbs and cities in South Africa. By knowing their rights, and reducing the number of firearms in circulation, we are helping people to live in safety.
Execution
The post box inserts were manually inserted into 6000 post boxes within the affected communities. The campaign ran over the period of one month, as a test case for a possible national roll-out in the future.
Outcome
As this campaign is a test case, results are still being collated. However, initial response has been positive, with 26% of respondents reporting gun-related crime in their communities, 47% of respondents reporting that they were in immediate danger, and 27% of respondents
enquiring about how they can go about handing in their firearms.
