Description
We wanted to elaborate on the life of Ethan Hunt by immersing fans of the movie series in a day in his life. What does that day entail? Being interrupted and tasked with navigating dangerous obstacles on a moment's notice (seriously, the participants could have gotten seriously hurt.) We set out to bring stunts from the movie to life. Stunts performed by the participants in the obstacle course were based on the biggest stunts from Rogue Nation.
Execution
This event dove into uncharted waters, headfirst. We coordinated over a dozen teams from across the country to install an epic obstacle course overnight. From conception to execution, seven months passed. From tedious, underwater stunts in an enclosed, 19-foot-long tank, to training novice participants how to rappel ON THE SPOT before sending them down 40 feet of uneven terrain (flat walls are easy, but when more than half of the line has no wall to push off of, things get tricky) we took on incredible risks to realize a legendary success. Teamwork and communication were key. These traits allowed for this activation to go off without a hitch.
Outcome
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation was the last movie in the legendary series, and we sent if off with a bang! After debuting at #1 at the box office and pulling in $55million on opening weekend, MI5 went on to realize over $682 million at the box office, and sits at #85 in ticket sales on the all-time record list.
Aside from the "wow" we received at Hollywood and Highland during the live activation, the viral video cracked the 1 million views mark just 4 hours after its internet release, and 5 million in the week leading up to opening weekend. This trailer premiered during a prime commercial break on America's Got Talent (AGT) on July 26th 2015, and went on to be aired during AGT commercial breaks two more times after that.
