Description
Promote reading in unexpected public spaces, by bringing books to places where normally people wouldn't have access to them, and by doing so encourage them to see reading as a fun way to socialise. This project would be part of an existing library system in the city, but in an unusual presentation. It should be self-contained, mobile and create a pleasant reading area.
Execution
An extensive research on mechanical operating systems and materials gave us an analysis of products that could provide us with the pieces we had to put together to make a unique structure. Visits to possible public spaces where the unit would be displayed helped us identify possible problems and implement necessary adjustments to the initial drafted structure.Having resolved all functionality details, the next step was to bring the design concept to life through functions and shapes.
Outcome
Since its launching in October 24th, 2010, BIBLIOPARK has became an important attraction for public parks.Public interaction was even better than initially intended because people were positively surprised.Besides the usual service of offering books from a collection of over 1,350 titles, there are also storytelling sessions, colouring books for children, all of which transforms culture and book reading into a fun experience. Everyone can borrow books for 21 days, in a simple process, without bureaucracy. Books can be returned to any of the facilities that make part the FCC system called: The City Reads.
