By working through prototyping, interaction design documentation, and final visuals, the team successfully took the best of the Nike+ Running experience and designed it specifically for a standalone device worn on the wrist. This wasn’t about taking the existing Nike+ Running mobile app and simply making it smaller. It was about creating a beautiful, simple and intuitive experience designed for the wrist. In addition, the Nike+ Running app keeps runners inspired and connected to their community by leveraging the Samsung Gear S’ 3G connection to deliver real-time cheers from select social channels.
Outcome
By introducing a best in class wearable running experience, Nike and Samsung set the stage for deeper, more intuitive wearable initiatives in future and showcased the power of an experience designed specifically to live on the wrist of an athlete in motion. Pre-loading Nike+ Running on every new Gear S gave existing Nike+ runners an entirely refreshed, streamlined experience right out of the box, while exposing a new audience to a more sophisticated, yet simpler way to track and share their running activity with the world.
