Description
We were asked to develop an authentic, compelling pop song to complement and drive the montage visuals happening on screen. The lyrics needed to be intentionally cheesy, but the music had to be earnest, heartfelt, friendly and upbeat. The client expressed a desire to have the song based around a simple acoustic piano.
Execution
Our team of three music producers worked closely with a group of eight different
composers, with each composer providing a variety of demos for this project.
From start to finish, this project took us about 6 weeks, with our winning composer, Kerry Smith, working through seven rounds of revisions before submitting the final piece.
The final project first debuted nationwide on ESPN Sportscenter on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 -- part of a special campaign called “Sportscenter Takeover” -- where the entire episode was themed around Old Spice, complete with intros, outros, and on set branding.
Outcome
This spot received more than 1,000 national airings (estimated), and has more than 4 MILLION views on YouTube.
