Description
Oscar, a young boy with CF, and Sam, his inquisitive dog who is interested in learning about CF and Oscar’s treatments, are the stars of the animated video “Learning About ORKAMBI With Oscar & Sam.” Using these friendly animated characters, the video explains what ORKAMBI is, how it works, and how it’s taken in language children can understand and relate to. Conceived as an animated storybook, the cartoon is an engaging and familiar way to explain a complicated disease and the different ways to treat it.
Execution
“Learning About ORKAMBI With Oscar & Sam” launched in October 2016 on ORKAMBI.com and on the ORKAMBI YouTube channel.
To help drive engagement, the video was promoted through direct mail and email to caregivers of patients prescribed ORKAMBI.
Outcome
• The video has a completion rate of 42% (impressive given that more than half of the content is devoted to Important Safety Information, which is required in the US market)
• Pediatric CF centers across the country now routinely use “Learning About ORKAMBI With Oscar & Sam” as an educational tool
• The response to the video from caregivers and CF centers has been extraordinary. One caregiver stated that her son had been angry for a very long time, but that he was “a different child” after watching the video and being able to see how ORKAMBI works in his body
